| Hankinnan lyhyt kuvaus | The aim is to purchase an In vitro digestion system to Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) and to provide new research data for the development of healthy, nutritious and sustainably produced foods, especially on the nutritional value of new food solutions and their effects on the intestinal microbiota with the equipment. In vitro digestion system dynamically simulates the human digestive system. The equipment mimics variable factors at different stages of the GI tract, like secretion of digestion fluids, pH changes, the transit of chyme and also the appropriate mixing (peristalsis). It provides information on the fate of food or ingredients during digestion for predicting bio-accessibility and indication of likely bio-availability of specific compounds. The equipment allows the study the changes of the complex intestinal microbial ecosystem and provides detailed information on the fermentation profile at various sites in the GI tract. System can be used to simulate different demographic groups and intestinal environments (e.g., infants, adults, the elderly) and can also be applied as a simulator for feed digestibility studies in monogastric animals. Equipment required is a multi-compartmental system divided into phases, which imitate the human oral, gastric and small intestinal and colon phases which integrates the whole gastrointestinal track. |
