Hankinnan lyhyt kuvaus | The Laser Flash Apparatus (LFA) will be used to determine the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of solid materials (and also possibly for molten materials). Thermal diffusivity is an important property used to assess how material transfers heat and reacts to changes in temperature. Thermal diffusivity is the ratio of how much heat is conducted in a material relative to how much heat is stored. The temperature dependent measured thermal diffusivity value along with the corresponding specific heat and density data are used to calculate the thermal conductivity. Thermal conductivity is an integral part of the description of a material. It is needed to understand the behaviour of a material, to influence processing steps systemically and to optimize processes. It is also essential in quality management, in materials selection in technical design and in failure analysis. Thermal conductivity is also an essential input data for mathematical simulations for: Temperature distribution, deformation of specimen, stress analysis, life-time estimation, kinetic processes, etc. The modern, fully automated equipment must provide easy access to the standardized thermophysical data.
