| Hankinnan lyhyt kuvaus | THE COLLECTION The collection of videotapes originates from the commercial television channel MTV3. The collection is not homogenous, it contains tapes produced with various recorders and over a span of years. The collection comprises 1,818 tapes in total of which 1,134 have been selected for digitisation. The total duration of the programmes on the selected tapes is estimated at 681 hours. A catalogue of the tapes with their known or estimated duration is attached. The tapes will digitised during three consecutive years, the funding for which has been secured for the first year. A tentative selection of tapes to be digitised starting 2020 contains 220 tapes with a total duration of 174 hours. The final amount of tapes in all batches will be based on the structure and cost of the winning tender. KAVI strives to digitise all 1,134 tapes but funding is at a fixed level, and the tenders do not need to cover all tapes. DIGITISATION AND FILE FORMATS The duration listed in the catalogue or one that may be found on the tape container cannot be used as a canonical digitisation length, and all programme content of the tapes must be digitised. The tenderer may use their discretion on whether to digitise the whole length of the tape or the recorded length only. Any blank content at the end of tape must be edited out of the digital files. The wrapper file format to be supplied is matroska (MKV) containing an FFV1.3 video track, and an uncompressed 16bit/44kHz sound track. The FFV track must correctly flag aspect ratio and interlacing. An MP4 preview file shall also be delivered. Naming of files and their delivery will be defined in a service contract to be drawn. SCHEDULE The project is tentatively funded for three years 2020–2022. Funding for 2020 is secured but that of the following years will only be secured when the government budget for them is ratified in the parliament. KAVI has the right to withdraw from the project temporarily or permanently at the end of each yearly batch should further funding be cut. All digitisations must be finished by 1 June 2023, at which time the original tapes, if so agreed, and the digital files must have been received by KAVI. |
