                "Spatially resolved transcriptomics is the general term for the very new technology that the GeoMx represents and few approaches have been published or launched to date. We have exhaustively mapped the available options through internet and literature searches and also by directly contacting the companies involved.",

                "The possibility to use formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) samples is very often crucial as this preservation method is by far the most common for clinical samples. GeoMX provides multiplexity for both RNA and protein, the possibility to profile the transcriptome and also proteins from adjacent slides, the possibility to select the region of interest to be studied based on patterns that are relevant for the scientific question being addressed, and the possibility to use both frozen and FFPE tissue sections. It is also an advantage that the tissue is not destroyed during the process. All this combined with the high throughput has led us to conclude that the GeoMx is the only option that fulfills the requirements.",

                "The requirements set for the equipment are to allow spatially resolved measurement of proteins and nucleic acids in a highly multiplexed manner (tens to hundreds of proteins and whole transcriptome), at a cellular or multi-cellular resolution, from fresh as well as FFPE large tissue sections on two adjacent microscope slides, preserving the tissue during the process, and in a high-throughput manner (up to 12 slides per day). Additionally, it is required to allow selection of the regions of interest to be studied based on patterns that are relevant for the scientific question being addressed, as opposed to being predetermined by the equipment or the assay."
