                "1)\tThe device must provide high-resolution images (nanometric or subnanometric resolution) of soft materials, particularly biopolymers in air and in liquid environment. The device must also provide high-resolution images of living cells, and it must include all the accessories needed to keep cells alive during the experiments. The NanoWizard 4 Bioscience AFM from JPK-Bruker offer two unique technologies for high-resolution images of soft samples and cells: Peak Force Tapping (PFT, patent EP1938040A2) and Quantitative Imaging (QITM) modes. PFT and QITM modes allow for self-optimizing AFM scanning (facilitating the work of non-experienced users), non-resonant imaging in liquids (improving the scanning in liquid), and direct force control of the tip-sample interaction (preserving both the tip and the sample from damage by using very low applied forces, down to 10 picoNewtons). In particular, the option Contact Point Imaging (CPITM), part of QITM-Advanced package, gives the sample topography at zero applied force. CO2 controller, PetriDishHeaterTM, and BioCellTM with temperature control are accessories available to keep cells alive during the experiments.\n2)\tThe device must be able to quantify the mechanical properties (elastic modulus, deformation, dissipation) of cells and biopolymers. The NanoWizard 4 Bioscience AFM from JPK-Bruker provides a complete mechanical characterization of the samples during scanning through the QITM-Advanced mode.\n3)\tThe device must be able to measure the interaction forces and adhesion of cells to different materials with high force sensitivity (in the order of picoNewtons). Such force measurements require a very long Z range (usually beyond 50 micrometres in cases of strong adhesion) to completely detach the cells from the materials. The NanoWizard 4 Bioscience AFM from JPK-Bruker is equipped with an additional CellHesion\u00ae 200 head that allows force measurements with sensitivity of picoNewtons and that provides a large Z range up to 100 micrometres, far beyond the Z range of any other AFM in the market.\n\nThe combination of technical requirements described above are fulfilled exclusively by the NanoWizard 4 Bioscience AFM from JPK-Bruker (Bruker Nano GmbH). The possibility that there would be other potential suppliers who could deliver an instrument with the required technical features has been objectively excluded by thorough market consultations."
