"The measurement of deformations as the loading progresses is the most important data for understanding the behaviour of structures in loading tests. In TAU's Laboratory of Structural Behaviour deformations on structures have measured using strain gauges, displacement transducers and the digital image correlation measurement system. The latter two of these are measuring deformations only from the surface of the structure, which is often insufficient in the study of reinforced concrete structures. In RC structures, the reinforcing bars are located inside the structure, and their deformations cannot be determined unequivocally by the measured surface deformations. With the strain gauges, deformations can be measured also from the reinforcing bar, but they can cost-effectively measure deformations with only a sparse grid. In this case, the differences in deformations between the cracks do not necessarily show up in the measurements.",

FOM allows for quasi-continuous readings along a bar at high frequencies.
